Board Certified Behavior Analyst Alyssa Ciarrocchi says one of the biggest changes she has observed throughout her career is the growing desire for stronger partnerships between professionals and families. After working as both a classroom teacher and a Board Certified Behavior Analyst, she believes collaboration has become just as important as any educational strategy.
Ciarrocchi says today’s families are looking for professionals who listen, communicate openly, and work alongside them rather than simply providing recommendations.
“Every family knows their child better than anyone else,” said Ciarrocchi. “The best outcomes happen when parents and professionals work together, share ideas, and build trust over time.”
Her perspective has been shaped by more than a decade in education. After beginning her career as a teacher, Ciarrocchi continued her education through graduate studies in special education and additional certifications before becoming a Board Certified Behavior Analyst. That journey reinforced the importance of understanding each family’s unique goals, strengths, and challenges.
According to Ciarrocchi, successful support plans are built through consistent communication and realistic expectations instead of searching for quick solutions.
“Progress looks different for every child,” she said. “Families don’t need perfection. They need someone who will meet them where they are, celebrate meaningful progress, and continue adjusting along the way.”
She also believes that trust develops long before measurable progress becomes visible. Parents, educators, and clinicians all bring different experiences to the table, and taking time to understand those perspectives creates a stronger foundation for long-term success. In her experience, open conversations and shared goals help families feel more confident throughout the process while encouraging better collaboration among everyone involved.
Outside of her professional work, Ciarrocchi is a wife and mother of two. She says becoming a parent has strengthened her appreciation for the trust families place in the professionals who support their children.
“As both a professional and a mom, I understand how important it is to feel heard,” Ciarrocchi said. “That perspective has made me even more committed to building genuine partnerships with the families I work with.”
She hopes conversations around education and behavior support continue to recognize the value of collaboration, not only between professionals but with families as well. By building trust, maintaining open communication, and focusing on shared goals, she believes children are better positioned to reach meaningful milestones over time.
